SkyTour - Lepus - The Hare

Comets Gemini

Lepus is a small constellation laying at Orion's feet. His sword points directly at Lepus' head. Lepus has four stars whose magnitude is close to 3. It’s easy to find thanks to its location near bright Orion.

Lepus contains a very nice globular cluster M79 which is only magnitude 8 so you will need at least a pair of binoculars to see it.

Lepus means "hare" and both the Arabic name "Al Arnab" and the Hebrew "Arnevet" have a similar meaning. One story has Lepus being placed close by Orion so the he can hunt it. I suppose a possible alternative set of names for Lepus and Orion would be "Bugs Bunny" and "Elmer Fud".
