This photograph of M31 - The Andromeda Galaxy was taken at a desert elevation of some 3,000 ft, about 60 miles south of Mt. Palomar in California.
M31 was photograhed with a 4000mm F/4.5 lens with an exposure of 55 minutes at F/4.5. The film was Kodak Tri-X developed for in D-76 for 10 minutes 69 degrees.
