M6 is located about 2,000 light years away. (Galactic clusters are generally much closer than the globular clusters.) Through binoculars you can easily see its five brightest stars, four of which form a trapezoid. Most of its members have apparent magnitudes ranging from 10 to 7. M6 contains over 80 stars with magnitudes brighter than 11.
