Entering the word "astronomy" on one of the search engines recently produced 1,676,030 sites so there is a tremendous amount of information on the web. The following are some of the best.
Sky and Telescope
This is the web site for “Sky and Telescope” magazine and probably the best of the
general astronomy web sites.
NASA
This is a huge site which gives you everything you want to know about the United States Space program including information on shuttle launches, the Hubble Space Telescope and satellites. It has a huge photograph collection also.
United States Naval Observatory
This site contains a great deal of technical information about astronomy and time keeping.
Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI)
The SETI program enables you to download software and help in the search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
Your Sky
Your Sky will enable you to generate a map of any place in the sky you request. It has lots of features for customizing the map also.
The Stars by H.A. Rey
H.A. Rey is most famous for writing the "Curious George" children's books. In the "Stars" he presents the constellation in a unique and entertaining way which is suitable for both adults and children.
Sky Atlas 2000.0 by Wil Tirion
This is possibly the best Sky Atlas around.
Carl Sagan's Cosmo
Although this television series by the late Carl Sagan is twenty years old, it still is an exciting introduction to the world of astronomy.
